Good maintenance is very important to enjoy your Ariat footwear for as long as possible. In addition to a good cleaning, your Ariat riding shoes, paddock boots and stable shoes need care to prevent the leather from drying out and tearing. As with your other leather work, it is not necessary to feed your shoes every day, but it is recommended to clean them after each use. (Read more about saddle and other leather maintenance here.)

Daily maintenance

Clean your Ariat shoes and riding boots after each use with a slightly damp, clean cloth to remove mud and dirt. You can also use a soft brush. Pay extra attention to the edge of the sole, where dirt can quickly penetrate and damage the leather and stitching.
If your Ariat paddock boots, working shoes or riding boots are wet, let them dry at room temperature an, if necessary, fill them with absorbent paper (such as newspaper) to dry the inside. In this case, take out the insoles before adding the paper. In addition, it is important that the Ariat footwear is not placed right next to the heater. The direct heat will dry out the leather, which causes cracks.
 
Taking care & feeding your Ariat riding boots and shoes

As already mentioned, it is not necessary to feed your Ariat footwear after each use, but do feed them on a regular basis, e.g. once a week. How often depends on the intensive use.

To start, make sure your riding boots or shoes are clean and dry before handling them.
Then you treat the paddock boots with a leather conditioner. To maintain the colour of your Ariat footwear, you can treat the paddock boots and stable shoes with a colour-based shoe polish or shoe cream.
Rub the conditioner with a soft cloth or sponge. It is better to rub in well so that it is properly absorbed, than to apply the conditioner thickly. You can still wipe off excess fat with a cloth before use.
To provide the leather with a water-repellent layer, you can treat it with a water-repellent spray. This spray helps to extend the life of the leather.
Finally, it is also important that the zipper is kept clean. Special zipper sprays are available. These ensure that the zipper remains smooth and clean.
 
A few more tips for the maintenance of your riding boots and shoes:

• Preferably treat your riding boots or shoes the day before you want to put them on, so that the maintenance product is absorbed properly.
• Do not use saddle soap on your riding boots, paddock boots or stable shoes. Saddles and other leatherwork for your horse are made from a different type of leather with thicker stitching. Using saddle soap on riding boots and shoes also results in a dull colour.
• A combination of moisture, sweat and bacteria from your feet accelerates wear and tear. To allow your shoes to dry properly, it is therefore optimal to be able to alternate.
• For extra shine, it is recommended to polish your boots or shoes with a shine sponge after applying and absorbing shoe polish.
• For your riding boots, it is best to use boot tensioners to maintain the shape. Then store them in a boot bag. 
• You can use a special anti-bacterial spray to clean the inside of your Ariat footwear.
