Because Kentucky focuses on sustainability, they wanted to develop a new green technology: Bamboo Shield.
Why Bamboo Shield?
Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant in the world, has incredible tensile strength, prevents penetration of sharp objects, and is antibacterial.
The protectors are made from a strong TPU shell with multiple ventilation holes in the tendon area and a larger triangular mesh vent.
The tendon area is reinforced with Bamboo Shield to prevent penetration of sharp objects.
A soft piece of natural rubber is placed below the knee joint to avoid friction.
The inside of the protectors is reinforced with an extra TPU layer to withstand high wear and tear.
Kentucky has developed its own testing machine. A razor-sharp axe with a force of 80N strikes a horizontal wooden horse leg. The Bamboo Shield protectors withstand this extreme test method, which is unlike any impact a horse's leg would experience during riding.
Additionally, the protectors are Rico Test and RCT certified.
Fabrics & Materials
Our Bamboo Shield protectors for front legs are made with our highly breathable and well-known 3D Spacer lining, which is also used in our 3D Spacer turnout boots and horse blankets. They feature a robust exterior made of a lightweight yet strong TPU shell, with an extra bamboo insert in the tendon area for optimal protection against impacts and penetration of sharp objects. Additionally, they are antibacterial.
Shape and Size
Thanks to the anatomically shaped design, the protectors fit perfectly around the horse's leg, providing maximum comfort and protection. This gives the horse maximum freedom of movement, even when jumping.
Moreover, the soft and flexible rubber insert below the knee joint provides the horse with extra comfort in movement.
