Choosing the right Emmers rug
The right rug depends on the season, how your horse is kept, and whether it’s clipped. Turnout rugs are waterproof and breathable, made for time in the field. Stable rugs give warmth indoors without the heavier outer shell. Fleece and cooler rugs wick away moisture after riding or washing and help your horse dry off without getting cold.
Fill weight matters too. A rug without fill works well in spring and autumn, a medium-weight rug suits most of the winter, and a heavyweight rug is best for clipped horses or very cold periods. Many owners keep two or three rugs on hand so they can switch as the temperature changes.
Getting the fit right
A well-fitting rug prevents rubbing and keeps your horse comfortable. Measure from the center of the chest, along the side of the body, to the point of the buttock. That measurement is your rug size. Check that the rug sits clear of the withers, allows free shoulder movement, and doesn’t slide back when your horse moves.
