Understanding VAT on your order
At Emmers Equestrian, VAT is applied based on your customer type, location, and how your order is fulfilled. As a Belgian company, our online shop follows Belgian VAT regulations.
Private European Customer
VAT depends on where your order is delivered or collected. Here's how it works.
Delivery within the EU
✔ VAT INCLUDED
All orders delivered to an address within the European Union include VAT at the applicable rate for the destination country.
Pick-up in Store
When you collect your order in person at any of our Emmers Equestrian locations, VAT is always applied, regardless of your country of residence. VAT applies at the applicable local rate.
Please note: our NL store follows NL VAT regulations. Some product categories, such as supplements, carry a different VAT rate in the Netherlands than in Belgium. This means that prices for these products may differ between our online shop and our NL store.
International Customer
Special VAT rules apply to customers and companies whose home country is outside the European Union.
Online order
✗ VAT-Free
Orders shipped to a non-EU destination are classified as exports. No VAT is charged on these purchases.
Please note: import duties and local VAT in the destination country may apply upon delivery. These charges are not included in the shipping costs and are the responsibility of the recipient.
In-Store Purchase
✓ VAT Included
If goods are collected in one of our stores or delivered within Europe, VAT applies at the applicable local rate.
Please note: our NL store follows NL VAT regulations. Some product categories, such as supplements, carry a different VAT rate in the Netherlands than in Belgium. This means that prices for these products may differ between our online shop and our NL store.
Travelling between a non-EU country and Belgium or the Netherlands?
Option 1 — Global Blue Tax-Free
For eligible in-store purchases, we can provide a Global Blue tax-free document. This allows you to reclaim VAT at the airport when departing from the EU. Ask our staff at the point of purchase.
Option 2 — Customs Stamp on Original Invoice
You may be eligible to reclaim VAT by having your receipt or invoice stamped by customs when leaving the EU. Upon your next visit, simply present this officially stamped invoice in-store, and we will
process the VAT refund for you.
Belgian Business Customer
As a Belgian company, VAT always applies on your purchases with us. However, you can recover it through your regular VAT return.
Online orders
✓ VAT Included
VAT applies on all online orders delivered within Belgium. Belgian companies can reclaim this VAT through their periodic VAT return, in accordance with applicable tax regulations.
In-Store Purchases
✓ VAT Included
VAT always applies for Belgian companies purchasing in any of our Belgian stores. As above, this VAT can be reclaimed via your periodic VAT return.
European Business Customer
With a valid EU VAT number, your company may be eligible for VAT-free intracommunity purchasing via our online shop.
In-Store Purchases
Conditional:
VAT-free purchasing in-store is possible when all of the following conditions are met:
- Your company is registered in a different EU country than the store's location
- You provide a valid VAT number
- You sign an export document at the time of purchase
Note: If your company is registered in the same country as the store, VAT always applies, regardless of your VAT number, but this VAT can be reclaimed via your periodic VAT return

Online orders
Here are 2 options:
1. ✗ VAT-Free (if conditions are met)
VAT-free purchasing applies when all of the following conditions are met:
- The order is placed through our online shop
- Your company is registered in an EU country other than Belgium
- A valid VAT number is provided and successfully verified
- Goods are delivered to an EU country other than Belgium
2. ✓ VAT Included (if any condition is not met)
- Goods are delivered within Belgium
- Your VAT number is invalid or cannot be verified
Example: A company with a NL VAT number ordering for delivery to a BE address → ✓ VAT Included
