This bit offers a compromise between a bridle and a double bridle, delivering a lever action that varies depending on cheek length, curb chain adjustment, and rein setup. It encourages the horse to give in at the poll and applies pressure on the mandibles.

The thinness of the cannon makes it slightly stronger in action, offering more precise contact. This Pelham can be used with two reins or four reins, and the curb chain pressure can be softened by using leather or nylon alternatives.
