Happy Mouth Bits: Soft, Gentle and Horse-Friendly | Emmers Equestrian

Happy Mouth bits are known for their smooth polymer mouthpieces, reinforced with a strong inner core for safety and durability. The soft, slightly flexible material feels warmer and gentler than metal, and its subtle apple scent encourages many horses to accept the bit willingly and mouth it softly. That makes Happy Mouth a popular choice for young horses, sensitive mouths, and horses that tense up against a metal bit.

Our Happy Mouth range covers almost every cheekpiece: loose ring, full cheek and D-ring snaffles, pelhams, Pessoa bits, a Weymouth and a hackamore combination bit. Choose from straight (mullen), single-jointed, and double-jointed mouthpieces, some with a roller to keep your horse busy and relaxed. Most bits come in 12.5 and 13.5 cm.

Not sure which suits your horse? You’re welcome to visit one of our stores for personal advice.

Frequently asked questions

What are Happy Mouth bits made of?

Happy Mouth mouthpieces are made from a smooth, durable polymer with a reinforced core inside. The polymer is softer and warmer than metal, while the core keeps the bit strong and safe to use.

Why do Happy Mouth bits smell like apple?

The mouthpiece has a light apple scent that many horses find appealing. It can help them accept the bit more easily and encourages a relaxed, soft mouth.

Are Happy Mouth bits suitable for young horses?

Yes. The soft, gentle feel makes them a popular first bit for young horses learning to accept the contact, and a good option for horses that are sensitive to metal.

How long does a Happy Mouth bit last?

With good care, a Happy Mouth bit lasts a long time, but check it regularly for bite marks or wear. If the surface is damaged or the inner core becomes visible, replace the bit straight away to protect your horse’s mouth.
