Sanequine Essential Oils for Horse Nebulizers | Emmers Equestrian

Sanequine makes essential oil blends specially developed for inhalation with an equine nebulizer. Instead of being fed or applied to the skin, the oils are turned into a fine mist that your horse breathes in, so the natural active ingredients go straight to the airways. That makes Sanequine a popular choice for riders who prefer a natural approach and for sport horses that need support during busy periods of training, travel, and competition.

The Sanequine range

Sanequine Immuno San: an essential oil blend designed to support horses in work and horses exposed to airway challenges, such as dusty stables, travel, or contact with other horses at shows. It’s typically used as a course of around ten days, for example, at the start of the season or during intense training and travel periods, and can be repeated when needed.

  • Sanequine Sano Stress: a blend designed to help horses stay calm and relaxed in stressful situations, such as transport, competitions, a new environment, or time on box rest.
  • Sanequine Sano Red: an essential oil blend developed to support the airways of horses during periods of intensive exercise. It’s especially suited to sport horses and racehorses with demanding training and competition schedules and to horses that need extra support after bleeding from the airways or with congested airways.
  • Like Immuno San, it’s used as a course of around ten days, for example, at the start of training or during intense work and competition, and can be repeated when needed. All three come in a 100 ml bottle.

How to use Sanequine oils

  • Sanequine oils are made for use with an equine nebulizer such as the Flexineb E3.
  • Add the recommended amount to the medication cup, fit the mask, and let your horse breathe in the mist.
  • A session only takes a few minutes, and because the Flexineb is silent and battery-powered, you can use it in the stable, in the lorry, or at a show.
  • Always follow the dosing instructions on the label, and clean the medication cup after every use.

Natural support for the airways and well-being

Inhalation is one of the most direct ways to reach the airways, and essential oils have a long tradition of use in horse care. Research has also shown that inhaling certain essential oils, such as lavender, can help reduce signs of stress in horses. Sanequine combines this natural approach with modern nebulizer technology.

For the best results, combine inhalation with a dust-free environment: steam hay with a hay steamer, choose low-dust bedding, and keep the stable well ventilated. For daily support through the feed, browse our airways & respiratory supplements and calming supplements.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Sanequine oils in any nebuliser?

Sanequine oils are designed for use with equine nebulisers such as the Flexineb E3. Check the instructions of your nebuliser to make sure it’s suitable for essential oils, as some products can damage the mesh of certain devices.

How do I use Sano Red and Immuno San?

Both are used undiluted in a nebuliser such as the Flexineb E3: 5 ml twice a day, for a period of around ten days. You can repeat the course as often as needed, for example at the start of the season or during busy periods of training, travel and competition.

Are Sanequine oils allowed in competition?

Sanequine describes Immuno San and Sano Red as natural and non-doping. Rules can differ per country and discipline, so always check with your federation or competition authority (for example the FEI) before competing.

Can essential oils replace medication from my vet?

No. Essential oils are a natural way to support your horse’s airways and wellbeing, but they don’t replace a vet’s diagnosis or treatment. If your horse is coughing, has nasal discharge or struggles to breathe, contact your vet.

Do I need a nebuliser to use Sanequine?

Yes. Sanequine oils are made specifically for inhalation with a nebuliser. You’ll find the Flexineb E3 nebuliser and replacement parts in our Flexineb collection.

Can Sano Red help horses that bleed from the lungs?

Sano Red is designed to support the airways of horses in intense work, including horses that have had bleeding from the airways. Bleeding from the nose or lungs should always be checked by your vet first; Sano Red can then be used as natural support alongside your vet’s advice.
