Heated riding clothing: jackets, vests and bodywarmers for cold days in the saddle

Winter riding means early mornings, cold arenas and a lot of standing still between horses. Our heated equestrian clothing gives you warmth you can switch on when you need it: heated riding jackets, heated vests and bodywarmers, heated gloves and socks, and thermal layers for underneath. You will find brands such as HKM, Back on Track, Aquito and Aztec Diamond, in women's, kids' and unisex fits.

Heated riding jackets and coats

A heated riding jacket warms your whole upper body, so it suits anyone who spends hours outside. A long heated riding coat also covers your hips and thighs, which helps most when you are standing still: teaching, grooming at a winter show or doing the evening stable round.

Heated vests and bodywarmers for horse riding

A heated bodywarmer, also called a heated riding vest, warms your core and leaves your arms free for riding. Slim cuts sit under your normal jacket, while warmer models work as an outer layer on dry days. Riders use them for schooling, hacking and the long waits between phases at an eventing competition.

Heated gloves and socks

Fingers and toes get cold first in the saddle, because they hardly move. Heated riding gloves keep your hands supple on the reins, and heated socks in sizes 35 to 46 look after your feet in the stirrups and on the yard.

Thermal layers and power banks

Thermal under-breeches add a warm base layer beneath your riding breeches without bulk. Most heated garments run on a USB power bank. Some are sold without one, so check the product page and add a power bank to your order if you need it.

How to choose heated equestrian clothing

  • Where you get cold: a heated vest for your core, gloves and socks for hands and feet, a heated jacket or coat for all-day warmth.
  • Fit: heat works best close to the body, so choose a snug fit with room for one thin layer underneath.
  • Heat settings: several levels let you turn the warmth down once you are riding and back up when you stop.
  • Battery: a larger power bank lasts longer but weighs more. A second one is useful for full days at a show.
  • Weather: check whether the outer fabric is water-repellent, and add rainwear on wet days.

Frequently asked questions

How does heated riding clothing work?

Thin heating elements are sewn into the garment, usually across the back and chest. They are powered by a rechargeable power bank that sits in an inside pocket. A button on the garment switches the heat on and lets you choose the level.

Does a heated riding jacket or vest come with a power bank?

Not always. Some heated garments include a battery, while others are sold without one, such as the Back on Track Etna heated vest. The product page tells you which. We also sell a 10,000 mAh power bank separately.

How long does the battery last?

That depends on the capacity of the power bank and the heat setting you choose. As a rough guide, a 10,000 mAh power bank runs a heated bodywarmer for around 3 to 4 hours on the highest setting and considerably longer on the lowest.

Is a heated vest or a heated jacket better for horse riding?

A heated vest or bodywarmer is the better choice for active riding, because it warms your core without restricting your arms. A heated jacket or long heated coat is warmer overall and suits teaching, yard work and watching from the side of the arena.

How should I wear a heated bodywarmer?

Wear it over a thin base layer and under your jacket. The closer the heating elements sit to your body, the more warmth you feel and the longer the battery lasts. A thick sweater underneath blocks much of the heat.

Is heated clothing safe to wear while riding?

Yes. Heated clothing runs on low voltage and the heating elements are insulated inside the fabric. Keep the power bank zipped in its pocket so it cannot move, and stop using the garment if a cable or connector is damaged.

Can I wear a heated bodywarmer for eventing?

A slim heated bodywarmer is popular for the warm-up, course walks and waiting between phases. For the cross-country phase, your body protector and airbag come first. Only wear a layer underneath if they still fit as the manufacturer intends.

Can I wear heated clothing in the rain?

Heated clothing is made for outdoor use, but not every garment is waterproof. Check the product page for the water resistance of the outer fabric. In steady rain, wear a rain jacket over the top and keep the power bank in its closed pocket.

Can I wash heated clothing?

Most heated garments can be washed once the power bank is removed and the connector is covered. Follow the care label, use a gentle cycle or hand wash, and let the garment air dry. Never wash or tumble dry the power bank.

Do you have heated clothing for children and men?

Yes. There is a kids' heated bodywarmer in sizes 128 to 176 and a unisex heated bodywarmer in XXS to XXL. Heated socks go up to size 46 and heated gloves up to XL/XXL.

How fast is delivery, and can I return heated clothing?

We ship worldwide. Orders to Belgium and the Netherlands usually arrive 1–2 business days after dispatch. Check out our return terms on our Returns page.

Are all heated garments waterproof?

Not always. Some items are water-repellent while others are fully waterproof, so it is important to check the product specifications.
