Horse Supplements: Targeted Support for Every Horse

A balanced diet built on good forage is the foundation of every healthy horse. But training, competitions, travel, age, the seasons and individual sensitivities can all ask more of your horse than hay and hard feed alone can provide. Horse supplements help fill those gaps, with targeted support for the joints, muscles, stomach, airways, hooves and more. At Emmers Equestrian, you’ll find more than 230 equine supplements from trusted brands such as Cavalor, Equine America, TRM, Global Medics, Foran, Intibio, NAF, Horse First and our own Emmers line.

Find the right supplement for your horse

Daily health and a balanced diet
Vitamins & minerals fill the gaps that forage and feed don’t always cover, and form the base for most horses. Hard-working horses that sweat a lot also need electrolytes to replace the salts they lose, especially in summer and during competitions.

Performance and sport horses
Build topline and support recovery with muscle supplements, from amino acids to lactic acid buffers and vitamin E. For extra stamina and power, browse energy & performance supplements. Keep the locomotor system in good shape with joint & tendon supplements, popular for sport horses, young horses in training and older horses.

Stomach and gut health
Horses produce stomach acid around the clock and rely on a healthy gut flora to digest fibre. Digestive supplements support the stomach and hindgut, with products for sensitive stomachs, probiotics and prebiotics, and sand clearance.

Calm and focus
For horses that get tense when travelling, at shows or in new surroundings, calming supplements help support a relaxed, settled mood, with daily powders as well as quick-acting pastes.

Airways, immunity and recovery
Support clear, healthy breathing with respiratory supplements and nebulisers, including the Flexineb E3 and Sanequine essential oils for inhalation. Immune support supplements help horses through demanding periods such as travel, seasonal changes and recovery after illness.

Hooves, skin and coat
Strong hooves and a shiny coat start on the inside. Hoof & coat supplements with biotin, zinc and omega-3 oils support better horn quality, healthy skin and a glossy shine.

Breeding
Support mares, stallions and foals with our breeding supplements, from cycle support for mares to fertility support for stallions.

Accessories
Make feeding and dosing easier with dosing syringes, scoops and other supplement accessories.

Powders, pellets, liquids or pastes?

Supplements come in different forms, and the right one depends on your horse and your routine:

  • Powders and pellets are mixed into the daily feed and are ideal for long-term, daily support at home.
  • Liquids are easy to dose and mix well with feed, which helps with picky eaters.
  • Pastes and syringes go straight into the mouth, so they’re quick and practical for shows, travel or a short-term boost.

How to choose a horse supplement

  1. Start with the basics. Make sure your horse gets enough good-quality forage and a balanced base diet before adding extras.
  2. Choose by need, not by trend. Pick a supplement for a specific goal, such as joints, muscles or the stomach, rather than adding many products at once.
  3. Check what’s already in the feed. Many feeds and balancers already contain vitamins and minerals, so doubling up isn’t always useful.
  4. Compare by daily dose. A bigger tub isn’t always better value; compare the cost per day.
  5. Give it time. Most daily supplements need several weeks of consistent feeding before you see results.
  6. Check competition rules. If you compete, check that the product is allowed under your federation’s rules.
  7. Ask for advice. For horses with health problems, always involve your vet. Not sure which product suits your horse? You’re welcome to visit one of our stores for personal advice.

Frequently Asked Questions about Horse Supplements

Does my horse need supplements?

Not every horse needs supplements. A healthy horse on good forage and a balanced diet often gets most of what it needs. Supplements are useful when your horse has extra needs, for example due to intensive work, age, a sensitive stomach, poor hoof quality or a diet that doesn’t cover everything.

Can I give my horse several supplements at the same time?

Often yes, as long as they serve different purposes. Check the labels to avoid giving too much of the same ingredient, such as vitamins, minerals or selenium. If you’re unsure, ask your vet or a feed advisor.

How long does it take for a supplement to work?

It depends on the product. Pastes and some calming or electrolyte products work within hours, while daily supplements for joints, muscles or hooves usually need several weeks to months of consistent feeding.

Are horse supplements allowed in competition?

Most supplements are allowed, but some ingredients, especially certain herbs, may not be. Always check the product information and the rules of your federation (for example the FEI) before competing, and respect any withdrawal times.

What’s the difference between a supplement and a feed balancer?

A feed balancer is a concentrated feed that provides the vitamins, minerals and protein a forage-based diet may lack, fed in small amounts every day. A supplement is more targeted: it supports a specific need, such as joints, muscles or the stomach.

Which brands of horse supplements do you sell?

We carry over 20 brands, some including Cavalor, Equine America, TRM, Global Medics, Foran, Intibio (DBS), NAF, Horse First, Farnam, VetGen and our own Emmers range.
